Past
When the MPAA first got the Hays Code they tried to implement it the best that they could and when that didn't work they decided to submit a rewrite for the Code. They eventually abandoned the code all together. This example should be followed to an extent. It shows us that even when we try to use censorship to help better our nation, we will eventually find better reasons to just leave things as is. So why try to censor us in the first place.

Present
Censorship is alive and well, though there are arguments on whether or not this is good. Many books have been banned from schools, because they may have content that some would find unacceptable. Books are banned for many different reasons, such as profanity, homosexuality, sexual content, excessive violence, and for mixing fantasy with reality. Many books of today have been banned like the Harry Potter series, and the book, Bridge of Terabithia. Censorship is not only towards books, but also deals with political and religious ideals. A couple weeks before September 11, a Florida pastor, Terry Jones, proposed an idea to burn copies of the Quran, because he thought that the Islams were a part of the devil. The government decided that this would be offensive, and thought it would cause problems for the soldiers over seas. The government then pressured the pastor, Terry Jones, to the point that he decided not to go forth with the plan. This is just an example of how the government has censored what people are able to do.

Future
Censorship gets worst and worst everyday. If the government continues to censored our books and tell us what we can and can not read, it is just a matter of time before we have no books at all. The book Fahrenheit 451 warns us about censorship in the future. The government could potentially do what the government did in Fahrenheit 451. The government could use entertainment to distract us from reality like they did in the book. Our government is all ready censoring books about ideas that they don't like. If the government continues with censoring books the way they are our future could be the same as the people in Fahrenheit 451.
